Kid Thoughts on Bad Guys

This morning at breakfast Chris and I were watching the girls eating and then smiling at each other with big cheesy smiles. I asked Guenna, “do you like having a little sister?” Here is the strange conversation that unfolded afterward…

Guenna - Yeah. But…we can hit bad guys. (okay, what does that have to do with liking your sister? Okay, we’re changing the subject.)
Mom - Yeah, if you got attacked by a bad guy, you could hit him.
Guenna - But Good bad guys don’t hit me.
Eamon - Good bad guys, are bad.
Aidan - Good bad guys, are good guys that are sometimes bad.

Have you ever wondered how amazing it is to hear your children discussing the meanings of life? I’m amazed at the profound statements made by children who are so young. Somehow they seem to have almost a better grasp on reality than we who’ve been cluttered by life circumstances. They have a keen awareness of what’s fair, of who’s at fault, of unjust discipline, and what love is and is not. They can’t always communicate all this and yet you can see it in their eyes when you disappoint them with your humanity.

As challenging as parenting can be at times, I’m so thankful to be in this incredible predicament.
