A few things to do before baby comes
October 9th, 2008 by Jenni
Every time I have a baby, I make up a long list of things to do before the baby comes. It helps me focus my nesting instincts and gives me something to do while I’m waiting for the baby to come. Today I’ve been working on my list, it will change dramatically between now and the time the baby comes. Here’s the beginning of the list.
- Store baby girl blankets
- Clean off dryer
- Clean off our dresser
- Make labels for tubs
- Attach labels
- Purchase socks for baby
- Make sure his crib is clean
- Find foam for his crib
- Purchase material for baby sheets
- Make two sets of sheets for baby’s bed
- Wash/change sheets in our room
- Figure out what his first outfit will be
- Make sure my homebirth kit is ready to go
- Purchase shower liner for the bed
- Clean birth ball and inflate
- Purchase booster for Aidan
- Install seat belt extenders/new booster in van
- Get an infant car seat
- Install infant car seat in van
- Find out from Charlotte if I need anything else for the birth
- Letter to the baby
- Organize back porch
- Thorough washing of the bath tub
- Make a Chore Chart for the kids
- Bleach wall in kids room
- Wash/change sheets in kids room
- Organize and store Guenna’s new hand-me-downs
- Make list, “Things to do when I go into labor”
- Make phone list, “People to call when I go into labor”
- Make list for babysitter for kids when I have the baby
- Eamon’s birthday preparation, cake, menu, gifts
- Visit pumpkin patch
- Carve pumpkins
- Make applesauce
I just realized today, tomorrow I have three weeks until my due date. Which means, I really only have 9-12 more days to finish this list! Because of our schedule these next few weeks I really don’t have that much time to accomplish all the things I want to do! It’s good to have my thoughts organized and start getting things done. I like to have my house in order when the baby comes, that way it’s easier for mom/Chris to take care of my duties that first week after the baby comes.
Speaking of the baby coming. I’m really getting excited about several things, a week of my husband not working, a week with my mom, a week with help with all the older children, and a week to spend sitting holding a newborn baby! Those first days with our newborn are definitely bitter/sweet. There is the pain of recovery which can be so challenging, and yet the sweetness of having family around and enjoying those first moments with a sweet precious new member of the family. Watching the children look at him in awe is such a joyful thing. There is something so special about seeing your children connect with the new baby, they know that this little child is the one they have been waiting for, for months! He’s their little brother, not anyone else’s. And that is pretty special. We cant wait to meet you little guy! But before you come, mommy has a lot to do, so I better get going now! We have a midwife appointment tonight, but before that I need to make some dinner for the family.

Wow! That is an incredible list, Sis! But, I know you will some how get it all done and then some, somehow. :-) I can’t believe it! Only three more weeks! I can’t wait to see that little boy, too! Oh! I wish I was going to be there. It’s so special how close in age our little boys will be! What fun!
Jenni, You are so romantic! I also loved preparing. Enjoy these next few weeks!
Love you
