A challenging week

Cait looks pretty happy to be eating a donut in this picture, that was Saturday. Sunday was the beginning of a whole new adventure for her. Sunday afternoon we realized that the reason why Cait had been so crabby off and on the past few days was because she had Hand Foot and Mouth Disease. If you are unfamiliar with it, it is a virus that causes blisters to form in/on the mouth, hands and feet and sometimes the diaper area. The blisters look a lot like chicken pox and just as painful. She has canker sore like spots all over inside her mouth, on her tounge, lips, roof of her mouth, cheeks, and on her thumb that she sucks :( Poor baby, she has been really miserable since Sunday. She’s been on Ibuprofen for the pain, it has helped some but by the time it wears off she is a total grump. I feel so sad for her because she has just not been herself this week, she’s thrown lots of huge fits over tiny little things and my emotions have been a little raw, that part must be contagious, I think I got it from her ;) Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, one of my good friends brought us dinner last night! What a timely dinner, and our neighbor brought us icecream cones for dessert. Rocky Road, my favorite! We are blessed :)
To top it off, Guenna and Eamon and Caitriona all have a head cold this week as well! And Guenna is teething her two year molars. When it rains it pour, eh?! So we’ve been drugging the kids up as much as possible, just to keep the family in some manner of sanity. Yesterday Aidan prayed that Cait would be better by Sunday, I’m pretty sure that it had to do with the fact that we have decided that we wont be attending church for the next couple weeks just to make sure that we don’t pass on the lovely virus to our good friends at church. I find it cute sometimes what Aidan prays for at times, he’ll ask for things that we know God wont change, like the color of someone’s eyes. It’s hard to know what to say when he prays like that, God could but we know He wont, why not? :) This next picture looks like Aidan might be praying in his mind, “Lord can you please make this donut bigger? Thanks.”
And this little boy, he looks like he might need a kiss on those sweet lips! :)
Anyway, it’s been a tiring week to say the least. Cait has wanted to be held a lot, preferrably standing up, and preferrably outside looking at the chickens or watching the cows. So she’s had a lot of daddy time, if only he could take the week off and spare this pregnant mommy’s poor back! Oh well, I will survive :)

I am soo sorry about her getting sick! Yuk! I have to say those donuts look sooo good! My biggest weakness in life is donuts… I LOVE them. Anyway, I will be praying for you guys, bless you all!
Oh Jenni (and Chris)…I am so sorry to hear of your struggles. Good news…if it doesn’t kill you guys, it should make you stronger, right?! Trials are only for a season, but each day seems extremely long. I pray that God will touch and heal your family and bring comfort to your weary kids and backs! Hang in there guys.
Oh Jenni…I didn’t have any fresh cilantro or basil, so I used dried cilantro. The picture on my blog on the stove was before I stirred up the spices and before I boiled it, so afterwards it pretty much looked like spaghetti sauce. It was really tasty, but like I said, I am not that fond of tomatoes. As a kid, I was allergic so the acidity still kinda bugs me. Thanks for commenting!
great pics Jen…but what is with the sword in the table?
Nic, it’s a boy thing, you will understand in a few more years :) Just the boys doing cool things with their swords, I didn’t even really notice it but Chris thought it was cool enough to take a picture of. He’s living vicariously through his boys.
By the way, thanks for offering to take some of my sick kids off my hands, but I don’t think that would be a very smart idea for you :) Especially if some of yours got it! We are doing better today, I’m pretty sure we are over the hump to getting better. Thanks for thinking of us Nic!
