Boy Name Suggestions
July 29th, 2008 by Jenni
Tonight at the dinner table we decided to throw out the question for fun (who knows, maybe one of our kids has a good idea?) “Okay guys, what are some good boy names for our baby?”
Aidan- “Thomas!” As in Thomas the Tank Engine. Um, love the name Thomas but don’t want to name him after a toy train.
Aidan again- “Gordon!” As in Gordon from Thomas the Tank Engine. No trains please :)
Eamon - “Wawly!” As in “Wall-E” from the movie they just went to see with our neighbor. No robots either please.
Eamon’s next suggestion - “Biggers” What? Where did that come from? The suggestions digressed greatly after this one. Next came, Diggers, then Piggers. We stopped it there. Okay maybe Guenna has a good one.
Guenna - “Light-ning Na-Queen!” Okay, what’s the deal? No, our kids don’t sit in front of the TV all day! But obviously those shows have left a mark on our children’s sweet little brains. Okay, back to square one, I don’t think we are going to get any real suggestions from our children, considering they are all under five. But they had a lot of fun with it :) Hopefully they wont be too disappointed when we don’t use any of their suggestions.
Any of you want to make a suggestion?

If you’re interested in continuing with the Celtic/Gaelic names for your children, might I suggest Gawain Seann. Gawain is pronounced like Gavin and Seann is pronounced like Shawn. Gawain is derived from the “battle hawk” and also happens to be the name of one of the legendary knights from King Arthur’s court. Seann means “God’s grace”. Congratulations on your expanding family and waistline. You look marvelous. Keep up the good work.
I love the name Gavin! Hmmm… I am trying to think of some that were on our “boy list”… Killian, Malakai (this was David’s fave, especially since it is a biblical name), and Evan. Other names I like are: Greyson, Shawn, Job, Caleb and Callum (also is celtic).
I think of all the thomas the train names, Spencer or Precy ought to top the list. LOL. Little more unique. :-)
Seamus is what came to mind first.
I have a great fondness for Gavin but Gawain is probably better (Arthurian knight of purity, right? Lancelot’s son?)
Connor
Eyon, Ian
Did you know Joshua was Celtic? :) Evidently so!
I’m always checking in on your website to see how you and the rest of your family are doing. I really miss you at Crossroads.
Well here’s my suggestions:
Bram - Irish for Abraham
Cillian - p. “kil+e+en” - means close to the church
Quinlan - p. “quin+lin” - Strong or athletic
Cormac - p. “core+mac” - son of charioteer
God bless you!!!
Wow, I love all the baby name suggestions, both from your readers and children! Although naming a baby “Biggers” might be asking for trouble. ;)
How about Kieran? Brendan? Cullen? Weylyn? Finnigan? Cace?
I can’t tell you just in case we have another boy. I liked Guenna’s suggestion!
Those are all really fun suggestions, thanks! :) You know, it’s funny, we’ve seen almost all of those before. We’ve even come up with several that we really like but nothing that has really stood out and grabbed us. This is the first time it’s taken us so long to find a name, but I guess we still have until the baby is about a month old, right? ;) Thanks again, we will tuck all those suggestions back into our brains!
Ooh, I just thought of a couple more (maybe we’re ready for another baby with all the names I’ve been thinking of, lol). How about Maksym (Ukrainian)? Or Cade? Or Fionn?
I like Bram too! Or break out of the mold and just go with Abraham. or Ibrahim
Um…..hello people. Howbout a Little Christian. BAM! Leeeiz NAILS IT AGAIN! Now you can sleep easy with sweet dreams of little Jr. ;) ha ha ha. Sorry. Seriously though. I think it’s super cute! There’s also Liam? If you chose one of my ideas what will you give me? Do I get an apron or anything? ;) ;) ;)
Liz, you are so funny!! If they choose one of your ideas, you get to baby-sit…all five!! Christian Jr,Little Christian, or how about CJ (a little Uncle CJ) :) I guess you could call him Junior…No? Sorry!! (Liz, in case you didn’t know, Aidan’s middle name is Christian)
Jen, I have been reading a series of historical Christian novels, and the two names I really liked were Kieran, which Catherine already mentioned, and Rowan. I don’t know what they mean, but Rowan is a type of tree, supposedly very hard wood.
See you next week!! Love you all!!
I just Googled those names, Kieran means “small and dark skinned” (might not fit in your family). :) And Rowan means “little red head” (could fit…maybe). Google also mentioned the tree thing, wonder if it gas red wood, hmm… I guess not all names have to have a profound meaning. :)
Guess I didn’t proof-read that last comment very well!! I meant HAS red wood, not gas!! ;)
