Lucky Me :)
Well, I had a Dr (not midwife) appointment today, it's been almost four years since I've seen my Dr. I usually go to the naturopath but my insurance doesn't cover her and I have insurance while I'm pregnant. Anyway, I've been having a lot of heal pain lately. It started as though I had bruised my heal and so I didn't think much of it. Then when it didn't get better but started getting much worse, to the point where I was unable to walk on it in the mornings/evenings, I decided I must go see the doctor (which you can imagine is a big deal when you have four small children, and no one to help watch them while you go to the doctor :) So we all went today, and the kids did great, they would have done a little better if we would have been seen at the time of the appointment and not an hour later, but that's life right? So she diagnosed me with a fairly common condition called plantar fasciitis. It's basically an inflammation of the plantar muscle which connects the heal bone and the toes. So, just in time for us to go camping, I have this lovely condition which requires me to stay off my feet as much as possible. Even if we weren't going camping, that is nearly impossible already! Oh well. Life goes on right? So she prescribed me to get some new orthodics in my shoes and I bought some new tennis shoes since mine are pretty old. Hoping those and the exercises and the ice, and the extra resting will do me some good. :) Have a great week all! We are heading out for awhile so don't be surprised if you don't see a post for a while. Blessings!
So strange, I was listening to NPR this morning on my way to work and they did a story about this condition. You may want to check out the NPR site, they said they were showing the exercises you should do, all the shoes you shouldn’t wear (flip flops, slides, heels, etc), very interesting.
Hope it feels better soon!
Hope your Heel heals soon!! :) I hope you have a wonderful time camping, and that you are able to stay off your feet as much as possible!! At least I didn’t have small children when I had Plantar Fasciitis, though I really missed my mall walking buddies!! (Hmmm…Spell check doesn’t like that word with either one or two i’s in the middle!! :) And it doesn’t look right either way! Oh, well!)
Thanks Michele, I will have to check out that site and information. It’s so nice how much good information you can get on the internet about medical conditions like these and their treatment options.
Mom, I hope my foot heals soon as well, I don’t have time for this! Well, I better get to bed, if we are going to start out early tomorrow I need some sleep tonight!
Wow. And I thought plantar Fac– whatever was a word made up by a local shoe company for their ads!
Welcome to the wonderful world of foot pain. I, too, have plantar fasciitis and it is not fun at all. If I may offer a remedy that has worked for me…if you can get your hands on a golf or tennis ball (or just a small hard ball from the kids’ toy box), place that under your foot and press as hard as you can while you roll the ball with your foot. My pain has receded to the point where I can get about 40 minutes of elliptical exercise at the gym before my foot starts to hurt. Good luck to you. Also, since you can’t lay on your stomach, sit down on a sturdy chair and have your kids take turns rolling a rolling pin up and down the offending back calf muscle. It really works. Just some food for thought.
My mom has that. There is hope. With her corrective measures it doesn’t bother her much any more. Have a great camping trip!
Oh Jenni, I am so sorry, Olivia has that and now we hardly ever get to run together anymore, so you be careful and let it heal! Bless you as you vaca…:-)
Jenni…..
Camping sounds fun!
We’re going to the beach Saturday, since it’s supposed to be 95 by then…..
We see a naturopath too, we have for 12 years. He saved my husband’s life when no doctor could. I really love him and his wife. They’re Christians and have helped us and become good friends. I’m glad you have a naturopath along with your regular doctor. A good combo!
Have a great camping trip! I’m sure you’ll share lost of beautiful pictures when you get back.
