I can’t believe it!
June 13th, 2008 by Jenni
Today we had our 20 week ultrasound for the baby. We’ve done this with every baby. Both Chris and I love to see the baby, just one little peak at the baby before he/she is born. We were so good this time, we had decided long ago that we would not find out the gender of the baby and we stuck with it! The baby’s position was perfect and we got to see a lot of good views and got some cute pictures.
Here are the boys, patiently waiting for mommy’s name to be called. On the way in I had informed them that they might not be able to go in with mommy to the appointment. They have a one adult one child policy and we pretty much far exceed that, so I told them, maybe if you guys are really good and quiet, they will let you come in (hoping!). Eamon was so cute while we were waiting he sort of asked/told me, “Maybe I should whisper and be really quiet.” I said, “yeah, I think that’s a good idea.” Our tech was wonderful and didn’t even flinch when Chris wheeled in the two others! So we all crammed into the room and the fun began. The kids were really fascinated and loved seeing our little one on the screen…
This one is my favorite, I was so glad that she was able to get such a great profile pic, I think this is only the second of five kids that I’ve been able to get one (no one else wanted to cooperate, come on, smile for mommy!)
The girls were getting a little “busy” so Chris went ahead and removed them away from all the expensive machinery and took them back out into the waiting room while the boys and I finished out the rest of the ultrasound. At the very end she got an amazing view of the legs, I asked her to stop there and was showing the boys the details of the legs. The baby was totally cooperating for us and did some fancy dance moves so we could see those little legs in action. I think it was a really neat moment for the boys, which was really cool to them. I’ve seen this before but it’s all so new to me. So the ultrasound was over and we now need to load everyone and head back to Chris’ work.
Hmmm, that was interesting…
Me- “Chris, I think we are having a boy.” (Me thinking-I’m not really sure but I think I saw something during that little leg dance move.)
Chris- “Yeah, me too. I wasn’t going to say anything but when she first started I thought I saw something but you weren’t looking so I wasn’t going to say anything if you didn’t.”
Hmmm, we told her that we didn’t want to find out but both of us are really suspicious now. Before, I was really strong, I didn’t need to know. But now I have this piece of information that will bug me for the next 20 weeks! 20 weeks, that is so far away! Oh well. So we loaded the kids and then Chris handed me a pen. “Here, take this back and ask the tech if we are right.”
So, feeling a little silly, I went in and asked for the tech who came out a minute later. “Um, yeah, a weak moment here. We thought we saw boy parts, did we?” She smiled and said, “do you really want to know?” Feeling just a little bit juvenile for having explained to her how we were so excited to keep the gender a secret this time, “yes.” “Yep, you were right. You’re having a boy!”
Oh my goodness, another boy! I can’t believe it! I can’t believe we know, already! That was so not the plan, but oh well. How exciting! The boys were very excited (although I don’t think Guenna’s choice of a name will fit very well for this one, “Eva” is her choice for pretty much any baby right now!) Well, it shouldn’t be nearly as hard to come up with a name now that we know the gender. I’m really kind of in awe, another little man in our home. I feel so blessed, so honored, and a little scared. Boys have a lot of energy. Well, I wont dwell on that thought too much, just like you don’t want to dwell on labor for too long when you are close to your due date, it’s just not healthy. Cross that bridge when I get there.
Thank you Father. For this sweet little boy. It’s hard to imagine, and somehow I feel so unworthy, so unprepared. Can I really mother another little boy who will one day grow into a man? Will I be able to help mold him into a man of virtue and godliness? Will I fail him, or will he rise and called me blessed one day? I’m truly humbled as I look once again at the job description that God apparently sees me fit to accomplish. And I am so thankful that He will never leave my side, always molding me, reshaping and refinishing, his mother. And everyday as they get older I see those glimpses of Him in their eyes and I know that He’s the one doing all the molding, I’m just another empty vessel doing my best to be willing and ready to be used by Him. Thank You Father.

Oh Jenni!!
That’s really exciting!
Another boy!
Do you have a name all picked out?
I’ll be waiting with you over the next 20 weeks!
It’s not as long as it seems!
Leanne in Longview
Oh well, I was kind of hoping for a girl!! That’s 10 grandsons, and only three precious little girls!! Not that boys are not precious as well, but I have so many…and I love every one!! I still have one more chance for a girl this year, come on Andrea, work with me here!! Although, I guess it’s Andrew who makes that difference, and the choice (if it can be called a choice) has already been made. I will love that one, as well, even if it is ANOTHER BOY!!!
Thanks Leanne! I know 20 weeks isn’t very long, these past 20 have literally flown by! But, it was going to be a long time to wait with that info, so we caved! We are sooo bad with secrets :) Thanks for commenting and being excited for us, we are very excited!
Mom, you are so funny. I thought I sensed a little disappointment in your voice when I said it was a boy. That’s funny though because I was really ready for another boy, since we have had two of your three granddaughters, I didn’t think we still had so much pressure! And then I guess I consider Jazzy and Eva “yours” too so it seems to me like you have tons :) Well, the nice thing about all these grandsons is that one day, hopefully they will all marry wonderful godly ladies and you will have 10 more granddaughters, and that’s not very far away! Love you mom, thanks for being excited with us :)
Reading your post again, I kinda chuckled about “boys have a lot of energy”! And Guenna and Cait don’t?!!
Yay! What a great post, and I am excited that you found out unexpectedly, the Lord knew… it will fly by and soon you will be posting about your sweet new baby boy:-) Bless you sweet lady!
WAHOO!!! We are SO happy for you! Let the name game begin!
:-)
Yea!!! A boy! Boys are so much fun (as you already know… lol)
I saw nanajudi’s comment about Guenna and Cait’s energy and i was going to wrote something silmilar! :-) They have to have tons of energy to keep up with those big brothers!
Thanks for sharing your joyous news!
I don’t get — what is the point of the pen thing?
this is fantastic news!!! congratulations! I LOVE boys!
Yay!! Another little boy for you!! :o) How exciting. Do you guys have any ideas for names or are you not telling people? I was a little bummed when they told us it was a boy because I wanted a girl SO bad, but I’m totally over it and excited now. He’s going to be a protector to his little sister (someday) and he’s totally going to be a “manly, Mommy’s boy” And God knew what he was doing. We are very excited to be able to call him Asher rather than “it” :o) I am due around October 25th. Today they told me the 23rd so somewhere around there. Have you been late or early with your other children? I just don’t want to have him on Halloween.
Thanks everyone, we are very excited too! And even though we didn’t want to find out, it is always fun knowing what we are having. It’s fun to call him “brother” instead of baby. Some of you were wondering about names, we haven’t even begun to choose a name yet, but we ARE going to keep that a secret until the birth (if it goes like it has so far, it may be a secret to us as well :)
The pen-we had accidentally taken one of their pens from the office, Chris was using it as an excuse for me to go back into the office :)
My Jenni,
I would have bet everything that I commented on this blog…… but after reading what everyone wrote I see I never replied….what the heck! and I am a mother of only 4 children with one out of the house! We are so excited for all of you..a boy. Jenni you may know the sex,but his personality is still hidden! We accidentally found out that we were having Elisha and we also felt like we invaded what was hidden, but God reminded me that He “knows Elisha’s heart”! So sit back and allow your little boy’s little body time to grow inside you and keep blogging and sharing your wisdom of this pregnancy we so enjoy it!!
You are so blessed. In your secret place whisper words of wisdom to your son, tell him who he is where he is going to go and allow the Lord to give you and Christain his name.
I love you so

Hi, this is really weird to me…
When I googled “23 weeks pregnant” I came across your blog. I have an eight year old step daughter and a two year and two month old son. My daughter’s name is Erin and my son is Eamon. I looked through the archives of “Eamon’s birth” since we, too, have an Eamon. Although Eamon is not an every day Irish name, it isn’t that remarkable a coincidence to find there’s a child with the same first name. HOWEVER, I was quite surprised to see that they also share the same middle name. My Eamon Robert was born on April 25, 2006. I am currently 23 weeks pregnant with a baby of unknown gender. We have a name picked out if it’s a boy, but we are undecided on a girl’s name. Best of luck to your growing and blooming family!
A boy! Congratulations!
