A little potty break
February 17th, 2008 by Jenni
Well, I’ve decided to go for it. I’m going to try to potty train Guenna this week. I’m not completely sure that she is ready but I’m going to give it my best shot. She definitely is interested so I figure that with a lot of encouragement from mom this week, we could have another one out of diapers! I’m keeping my fingers crossed :)
She so wants to be a big girl. As you can see in the picture, she is wanting to do everything herself. Don’t hold the chick for me, I want to do it myself! Thankfully she does really well and for the most part the chick doesn’t seem to mind her little grasp :) Well, wish me and Guenna luck, I may not be very active on here, I’m going to focus on maintaining the house and cleaning up possible messes while I teach my little girl to use the potty. Any potty training tips are welcome though as I refresh my memory once again on one of the many joys of parenting :) Blessings!

Bless her - it only seems a couple of months since she was a tiny baby whose progress towards first teeth and crawling I was following! It’s hard to believe she’s getting so big.
My boys are a bit older than Guenna (6 and 3) but I seem to remember that one of the keys to my boys being successfully potty trained was to have a couple of potties in different places on absorbent, washable mats (like bath mats) so that they were always near when needed and if there were little spills (my younger one always wanted to pick it up and show it to me!) I didn’t need to scrub the carpet but could just pop the mat in the washing machine.
I can’t imagine that you need any more tips though - you’ve already successfully trained your two boys, and I hear that girls get it quicker than boys most of the time. Will you be taking her out of nappies at night at the same time?
I agree….you will do great, but in case you didn’t use these tips for your boys…here’s a couple:
- in the first few days especially, plan on doing nothing outside the home so that you can really focus on helping her be successful
- accidents are accidents…not on purpose and don’t discipline like it was on purpose
- over-praise her, and if her brothers can praise her success, that would be great too
- don’t trick or “make” her go
- give her lots of liquid so that she has plenty to potty with
I guess that was more than a couple?! Bless you and Guenna in your endeavor!
Good luck to the both of you!!! What a big girl being interested in the potty! I walked by the sock and undie aisle at walmart this morning and was just thinking how Abi would look so cute is some curious George undies LOL, but she is sooo not ready, especially with baby boy coming in April! I hope you guys have a great week and some fast training though, can’t wait to hear how she does!
Wow! She’s only 2. Not even yet, I believe. That’s really early isn’t it?
Hi Jenni, I’m not sure you remember me, but I used to go to Orting Assembly of God. Anyway, I am trying to get my daughter Emily potty trained right now and what I did that seemed to really help her know when she had to go was let her run around without a diaper on for a little while during the day. It seemed to help her know what the sensation feels like to have to go. Well, I’ll be praying for you that Guenna picks up on it fast because I know how time consuming it can be. Although I’m sure you do too with your two boys :) Hope you have a great day!!
Hey Jenni,
Sorry I didn’t show for my eggs!!! DANGIT! We’ve been just wiped out. We’re getting better now but it was the real deal alright.
Miss you guys! Good luck potty training!

Have not heard from you in a few days…….so how’s potty training going? It must be keeping you very busy. I will continue praying!!! Love you, Kelley
