Here is an email and prayer request from Chris' mom, Joan:
I'm so glad you could come last night...life is so short. Grandpa had a tough time after we left. They had to use a special breathing by-pass with mask to help him breath and rest. They have increased the pain meds and now he's sleeping. Dr Rees said that now, they can only make him comfortable. Janice said Tim is in Beijing for another 4 hours before he flys out and hopes to get here in time. Please pray for that... Dr said it probably won't be today..or maybe not tomorrow, but probably no longer than a week.
Janice is Chris' aunt and Tim is his cousin. Please pray with us that Grandpa will hold on until Tim makes it back into town, that would be really hard.
As we are preparing our hearts for the loss of our dear Grandpa Burns, we have been doing our best to let the kids know what's going on. Their hearts are so tender and death is such a hard thing to explain to a 3 and 4 year old. This morning Aidan said, "Grandpa can't die, because he's our Grandpa!" Yesterday they wanted so badly to go into the hospital room to see him and give them the flowers and card they had brought him. They love him so much and it's so hard to understand why. But this morning Aidan asked, "Is Grandpa going to go to heaven with Grandma Esther?" Grandma Esther is Chris' mom's mom, she died last year. I think Aidan feels better about Grandpa going to a place where there are very close friends. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts, it means a lot.
