Getting close
March 31st, 2007 by Jenni
I know there are a lot of people checking our website every day simply because they want to know if we have had the baby yet :) Thank you for not calling (although most of you don’t have my phone number)to ask “so has labor started yet?” I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced that question a hundred times at the end of your pregnancy but I have and it’s not a fun thing, especially when your emotions are so high, you are really uncomfortable and you really want labor to begin! :)
Luckily so far I have not experienced these feelings, in fact up until the last couple of days the thought of early labor/delivery has kind of freaked me out. But I’m starting to make a dent in my To-Do list, and I’m really close to my due date and settling in with the idea that this baby could come any day, ready or not! Today was my official first due date but we moved it to the this Thursday the 5th so I could really go any day, it’s all up to the Lord. My midwife said the baby’s head is really low which is a good thing but I’m not any more dilated than I was last week which doesn’t really mean much. I don’t usually start to dilate until I go into labor anyway. So I just figure I could start labor anytime.
Today is a work day for us. We went to Home Depot this morning and purchased the materials to make a platform bed for the boys (they are really excited!) Chris is working on it right now and hopefully will have it done sometime before bedtime tonight, our nice neighbor Tony is out there helping Chris. I’m working on getting caught up on laundry and trying not to over do it. I’ve been having really consistent braxton hicks today, along with some painful contractions here and there, I know the more of them I have the closer I am getting. It’s just a little awkward when you are having contractions and three children are climbing all over you!
Here’s a little list of what I’ve been up to the last couple weeks:
Organize Pantry
Cut boys hair
Clean bathroom thoroughly
Organize shelving in bathroom
Organize dining room shelving
Get computer hutch, put it together
Put together new stools for boys
Hang pictures in living room
Organize garage tubs
Solidify plans boys bed
Build bed for boys
Replace burnt out light bulbs
Move Guenna’s crib
Buy needed items for homebirth
Get all toys out from under furniture
Buy shoe rack
Stay on top of dishes/laundry
I still have a few big things on my list but daily I’m crossing things off. Hmmm, do you think I might be nesting? :) Since I started this post Chris and Tony have been working on the bed and I think they are almost done! It looks great so far, I’m sure we will have pictures up soon, I’m very impressed with their work and I think the boys are going to love their new bed! Yeah! Way to hon, you are the man!

LOL. i couldnt stand that question at the end of m pregnancy!!! that, and my belly was huge, so i always got asked, “is it twins?” i even had doctors asking that who wre holding my chart in their hands!!! i think you are the first person i have heard of that isnt begging for the baby to come out. i do have to stop by once a day though to check and see if you have a post titled “its a boy” or “its a girl”.
I am excited to see pictures of the boys’ bed! i was thinking of doinging something like that for River, maybe seeing the pictures will push me over that “thinking” stage and i’ll actually go buy the stuff and get it done. (well, after the move of course) you’ll have to do a post with the boys’ reaction to it! what a lucky woman to have such a handy husband, and one that doesnt mind doing things like that!
Hey Sis, what a list! You are such an ambitious woman. Wish I was there to help you get some of that stuff done. I know that really doesn’t help you, but I wish I was there. Maybe the thought that I would love to be with you helping you out will help. :)
I’m really curious to see what the boys’ bed looks like too. Well, I know you are uncomfortable, but I hope you are feeling well. If that makes any sense. I don’t really know what it’s like to be pregnant so I can’t relate, but someday I will. Love you sis. I’m praying for you.
Thanks Sara :) We will have to post our plans with the pictures, although Chris ended up tweaking things a bit when he actually made it. Yes, I am a blessed woman, I love having a dreamer for a husband he is not afraid to try something new! The boys love their new bed and are really anxious for daddy to make a ladder so they can climb up and down by themselves, but I think it will be a couple days before he gets that part done. Guenna is sleeping in their room tonight too, shhh don’t say anything but this will be the first time we get our room to ourselves in a whole year! I don’t want her to hear me say that for fear that she will need to come into bed with us tonight :)
Thanks sis, actually it does help me to know that you would love to be here to help me. Sometimes the thought really counts :) I wish you were here too, I wish you could be here for the birth and the excitement of the new baby. I will call you though for sure! And hopefully next time you’ll be able to be there, who knows maybe we’ll be having babies around the same time! Love you too!
I too have been checking your site daily (or more than once a day!) to see if you’ve had the baby or gone into labor (more the latter, you were really good about keeping us all updated so we could pray for you during your labor with Guenna…) But yes, I too remember the last few weeks of my pregnancies, especially the ones where I’d be overdue, and everyone kept asking “Oh, you haven’t had the baby yet???”
I love your To Do list, you are so ambitious!!! I can’t wait to see the boys bed! Do you have a special bed for the new baby like you did for Guenna when she was born? (I guess the one you had for her got destroyed in the fire…is that a need you all have right now? I’m sorry, I guess I’m asking a little late, but let me know…)
God bless, and lots of love and prayers,
Catherine
I often make those kind of lists and feel accomplished, until I start my next list which is just as long if not longer. We’ll keep checking in.
Oh, Jenni, I was thinking you still had Guenna’s co-sleeper, but now that Catherine mentions it, it was lost in the fire wasn’t it? I wasn’t worried about what the baby would sleep in because you already had that…but I’m sure you have it all planned out. I hope if you and Tam have babies at the same time that you are in the same time ZONE!!! This planning for two grandbabies in two weeks in two time zones is not my idea of great fun!! Although I must admit two grandbabies together IS fun! Nancy called me today, “Is number 10 here yet?” Another half hour and it will not be March anymore! :)
Hey Jenni,
You don’t know me. I just happened to stumble across your website one day and I really love checking in to read your updates! I don’t have any kids but I’ve always loved kids and love hearing about them. I must say that you are by far, the most honest person in terms of relating your pregnancy and labor experiences. Good luck to you and your family. I hope you have a safe delivery and I hope your family feels better soon. I will keep you in my prayers.
