Christmas Music
So the other day I listened to Christmas music. It was a cold and rainy day, and somehow I just felt in the mood for Christmas music. I usaully heat up some hot cocoa (but this year I'm not doing cocoa but I'm getting used to the idea of tea), turn up the Christmas music and it gets me in the mood to clean or cook, isn't that strange? I wonder why that is? It must have something to do with memories of Christmas and preparing all the fun things for Christmas. So on those cold days, and they come often here in the Great Northwest, my kids and I will be listening to Christmas music and bustling around the house cleaning things up. Maybe I should play Christmas music everyday, then maybe my house would be consistenly clean, probably not ;)
When do you start playing Christmas music? How does it make you feel?
I just told Hans the other day that I was looking forward to listening to Christmas music. I haven’t broke it out yet. Probably sometime in the beggining of Nov.
As far as cold in the Northwest being cold…come visit me and then we can talk about cold!
I usually don’t get it out till my decorations come out in late Nov. You are making me want to get it out sooner though. I was just thinking about wanting to have music in general on in my home more of the time. I think it would have a great affect on my girls and myself.
It sure is nice to have cozy things when it is rainy and gray outside. I really do like this time of year, just for that!
If you are trying to avoid cocoa, spiced cider is a nice alternative. That’s what I’ve been wanting lately. It makes the whole house smell like Christmas.
I usually start getting all excited for Christmas right before Haloween. last year i was sitting in a class on Halloween day humming christmas carols to myself and doodling christmas trees and bells and angels in my linguistic notes! Of course at the Backus house we don’t really get decorated till the week of Christmas, but the spirit is there from about late October to early January.
I know how you feel about Christmas music. It really has a strange effect on me too. Rebekah was playing it the other day at her house. It’s always such a nice warm feeling. I haven’t purposely listened to any Christmas music, yet, this season. But then again, I haven’t purposely listened to any music lately. I’m constantly on the run, it seems. I can’t wait to be done with school… and I’ve only just started.
That’s so funny, we did the same thing on Saturday! Adam was working and we needed to do MAJOR cleaning cath-up from a busier than usual week…plus I wanted to have a *cheery* joyful Saturday, not one with drudgery…so I popped in Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas. Of course I think the kids did more lip-syncing than cleaning, but they did have a blast!
Merry Christmas! :)
(I really am thinking about it as there are a few craft/gifts I’d actually like to get made this year…and you know how after Nov. hits Christmas sneaks up awfully fast.)
We cheat, we have all our music on our computer so we don’t have to get anything “out” it’s just there for the picking ;)
dccdmom-hmmm, yes I love cider but I’m trying to do less sugar :) But I’m sure I will have a taste of some spiced cider here and there throughout the season :)
Roberta, I have many aspirations of crafts but somehow can’t seem to get up the energy to accomplish. Maybe when my house is settled I will feel like being crafty again!
My husband feels strongly about “no Christmas music until after Thanksgiving.” Unfortunately, I would rather ease myself into it by starting whenever I want, or around the time of the first frost. :) So I can ease myself in during the day, but after Thanksgiving – you’d better believe that the music is on day & night! Have you tried the Celestial Seasonings Christmas blend? It smells wonderful & spicy!
Your post made me want to start listening to Christmas music right now! We don’t usually start until November-ish, although throughout the year, occasionally I’ll just get on a Christmas-music kick and play some for a day or two. Usually it has to start getting cold here first before I start playing Christmas music, which doesn’t really happen till late Oct./Nov.
