Headaches

I haven't written a post for awhile and partly because of the title of this post, headaches. I've been having migraines for the past couple of weeks. Every day. I thought they were just hormonal (I get migraines for about three days at every hormonal change during pregnancy; when I get pregnant, 1st trimester, 2nd, and after birth). It's just something I've gotten used to and have learned how to manage it somewhat but these past couple of weeks have been pretty miserable. I am fine until about 4:00 PM and then it just hits me, right around the time I need to make dinner and get ready for Chris to come home. Then I have it for the rest of the evening until I go to bed. Last night I was telling Chris, "I'm so thankful that I haven't been having them during the day, it's so hard to function." Then this morning I woke up with a migraine. I called Chris but he didn't answer, I didn't know what to do, I had such a hard time just getting the kids out of their wet diapers, so it was a pj day. I'm a little beside myself with what to do. My duties are piling up, laundry, dishes, etc. Today I just wanted to cry, but I know that would just make my head hurt worse. All I wanted to do was lay in my bed and sleep but I can't do that, I have three small children that need me, so I found the longest movie we own (Sound of Music) and we watched it until nap time. I just thought I would post about this because I would really like to ask for your prayers. Having headaches like this can be very discouraging for those of you who've struggled with this you know what I'm talking about. It's debilitating and I just struggle to keep my attitude positive and not snap at my kids, but somehow they seem more needy when I'm in pain. I need God's grace right now. Thanks for your prayers. Sorry if this post seems a little down. On a good note, Guenna is doing really well. Her eye seems to be doing better and for the first time in her little life she seemed to get over an eye infection (this past week) without any meds, so I'm so hoping that this keeps up and we don't have to do surgery!  She's eating solids really well, and we are starting her on a bottle of goat's milk in the evenings to help get her through the night. I'm going to start taking barley grass powder in tablet form, my friend tried this and said it really helps with milk supply so I'm really hoping this helps because having more milk would definately save me time and money! :)

Gracious Father, please heal whatever it is that is causing these migraines, give Jenni peace and allow her to function at her fullest, so that she can fulfill her many roles as mommy, wife, and your precious daughter. In Your Name, Amen
As someone who occasionally gets migraines, I know how debilitating they can be, and how hard it can be with small children, and I cannot even imagine dealing with headaches every day (and being pregnant…) I will be praying for you.
Thank you so much for the baby congratulations, and for stopping by my site.
    God bless,
    Betsy

Hey Sis, I love you. Hang in there. Healing Savior, shower my sister with peace and healing right now. Help her body to come into balance as it should and function properly. Give her strength to function and have patience when she comes to the end of her own grace to be what her children and husband need her to be. Thank you, Jesus, for picking up where we come to end. We love you and praise you for all that you are doing to make us more like yourself. Walk beside my sister and be her special close friend.
I ask all this in your amazing, wonderful, precious name. Amen.
Love you sis…See you in a few months. :-)
Thanks for being such a wonderful sister.
I couldn’t have asked for a better one.

    Jen,
Prayer is powerful as well as the power of natural remedies our Heavenly Father put on this earth for us. I have heard that ginger is excellent for migraines so I thought I’d send you some information I found on the the following web address, Best Wishes on you feeling 100% again soon! http://www.purifymind.com/ApproachMigraine.htm

I edited out the long section on Natural approach to migraines. If you would like to see this part you can go to the above link (thanks so much for the info Crystal!) – Jenni

Are you awake this morning Jenni? I suppose even if you are, you might not be looking at this. But anyway, I want to come help you if I can, or at least do your laundry or something. I’ll call you around 9am to see.
    I’m praying for you!
    Love,
    Ari

Thank you ladies for your prayers and the helpful information. I have always wanted to try an elimination diet to see if there is some food that is causing my headaches (I have struggled with headaches for years), I think now when I’m desperated is a good time to do it. Thanks for the link.

I’m wondering too if it has to do with the fact that about two weeks ago I eliminated most of the sugar from my diet and my body is aching for more! I just thought of that last night. I think I’m going to try this diet under the care of my midwife and see what happens. Thanks again.

Jenni – there is an over the counter product that has helped me a great deal. I get the migraines with lights, colors and the whole shebang! They are not fun. If you can get to the store (or if Chris can go for you), get “Head On”. It looks like a glue stick and you just rub it on your forehead. It has a “cool” feeling and a light, menthol-y scent – very nice and calming. I have a whole bunch of prescription meds but I know you can’t take those right now so I won’t even suggest those….It might take a while (30 minutes or so) for you to begin to feel some relief, but this does work. I will see what I can find related to some aromatherapy help for you and pass that info along. It has helped me a great deal with stress and headaches. Also, your migraines could be caused by stress on your pelvis. Don’t laugh….when women have close pregnancies and births, it wreaks havoc on your system – and because you also have back problems, your system is just probably out of whack. I am praying for you and your healing :)

    hey jenn-

i started having them almost daily, and went to my dr, (who’s also a friend from church) and he gave me a book that is just awesome about the physiology and triggers, and i have just figured out some things about my triggers, and had a lot less, so i will try to find it for you.

Oh Jenni, I am so sorry. Headaches make daily routine so difficult. I was going to say that I am going to pray for a Mother’s helper for you…and saw Ari’s comment, how very sweet. I hope you took her up on it. :) Are there any young ladies in your church or area who you could ask to be a Momma’s helper a few hours a week or so?
I’ll keep praying for you Jenni, and that God’s sufficient grace will strengthen and uphold you.
    Love, Roberta :)

Oh, Jen, I’m so sorry that the headaches keep coming. Even though I rarely have a headache now, I remember how hard it is to function when your head feels like exploding!! I’m praying for you as well. Hey, how badly do you need the brush you left at my house? If you need it badly, I can mail it and the boys pjs, just let me know!

    Love you much, Mom
