Goat Milk

Well, as some of you know, Eamon is allergic to cow's milk. I weaned him at 10 1/2 months because I was pregnant with Guenna and having problems with nursing. I started giving him cow's milk at first but he had problems with it from the start and if I could go back I would have just nursed him for longer and dealt with the problems. Anyway, I had even tried goat's milk with him and still had problems digesting it. We have a friend who has a goat and today she gave us a quart of milk to try (I've heard that when it's raw it's a lot easier to digest, and that the pasteurization is what makes milk hard to digest). So we are giving it a try, I gave him a little today and he seemed to like it. She also gave us some cheese and yogurt that she made with the goat's milk, she said the cheese is good on salads. I actually liked the milk, I've tried the store bought kind and didn't like it, but this tasted very similar to cow's milk. The boys weren't crazy about the cheese though :) Eamon is such a character, he definitely makes us stay on our knees about parenting. We seem to be constantly searching for answers in how to get positive results with disciplining him. He really has a mind of his own and throws fits throughout the day. I think part of it is communication. He wants to communicate something but doesn't know how and gets frustrated so he throws himself on the floor. Eamon is such a joy, but he is also a challenge. I thank God for the challenge, I know being his parents will sharpen us and keep us seeking God daily. He may be a challenge but he is also so much fun, his personality just cracks us up every day. I think he is going to have a real dry sense of humor. He can do something really funny and get Aidan cracking up, and all with a strait face-what a kick! Thank you God for this little boy, we love him so much! I can't believe he is almost 19 months old already, a little over a year and a half, that flew by so quickly! Just one more quick cute thing about Eamon. He still doesn't quite sleep through the night every night :) Usually when he wakes up in the night he either says, "Biiiinkiiie" or "Mommmmmyyyyy" well last night we woke up to him saying, "Daaaadyyyy!" I thought it was so funny because he doesn't really want daddy, he wants me. Chris was just saying that he probably said daddy because the last few nights daddy has gotten him and brought him to mommy. Hmmm? Well, we put an end to that, no more cold so no more sleeping in mom's bed :)

Oh, Eamon, poor boy. He’s like his Auntie. In more ways than one it seems. :-) Alergic to milk, temperamental (terribly misspelled!), but such a joy!! :-)
Hope you keep finding solutions for the boy. I’ve heard that allergies can have an effect on a child’s temperment. Maybe that’s what my problem was when I was a child.
I love you sis! Can’t wait to see you. I feel priviledge! Look! I was the first person to leave a comment on you blog! That doesn’ usually happen!

Hmmmm, I hadn’t really thought of that, maybe he’s allergic to other things to. Thanks sis, love you:)

My little sister is allergic to cow’s milk, and we had her on goat’s milk for a while when we were worried about her calcium intake. I’ve heard goat’s milk is actually a better source of calcium than cow’s milk.
When Brinna was little (actually from the day she was born, really), she had a stubborn streak and a personality all her own, and was definitely strong willed, but through consistant discipline she’s such a sweet little girl now (although she can still be stubborn and strong willed!). It was challenging helping her learn to obey and control herself when she was a baby/toddler though. God bless you and sweet little Eamon too.

If you’re having a hard time cooking without dairy let me know. In my family we had 4 people allergic to dairy & 2 people allergic to fruit. Now my kids seem to have gotten my milk sensitivities! If you deal with this food issue now, you will be saving yourself & him quite a lot of grief & possible health problems later in life. God bless you in this endeavor!
With discipline – I know what you mean! It would be so easy if what worked for the first child worked for the second but apparently it doesn’t! :) We have prayed and sought the Lord & also our friends & parents for advice & help with Will. One friend had two boys, the older would respond to a simple “no” or perhaps a physical chastisement. The second one did not yield until his mom discovered the godly time-out. For this young man, being alone in his room without toys was more discipline than any physical discipline. So we listen to our friends & our parents and try anything the Lord quickens to our minds! Boys. Boys are future men – as your book says well. God bless you during this season with Eamon. And let me know what is working for you! LOL!
