KidCo Food Mill
December 19th, 2005 by Jenni

I would like to get one of these Food Mills next time I need one, which is not too far around the corner. They are portable and you don’t have to prepare something special for your baby just feed them whatever you’re eating. So far I have just made all my own baby food but I think this would help in a pinch, or if the baby food isn’t thawed or if (heaven forbid!) I ran out :)

I had one of those once. They work great. Was that a Christmas hint!?
:-D
Nope, more of a reminder to self :)
I have one and so far I don’t like it. I mashed peas with it for Nina and they were way too chunky for her. What do you make babyfood with? Did you do the ice-cube tray trick?
No, but I’ve heard that that works really well. I always just steamed my own veggies and then put them and a bit of water into the vitamix blender and pureed it. Then I put the pureed veggies/fruit hot into babyfood jars and let them sit on the counter until cool and then I freeze them. I take them out of the freezer as needed. I heat it up in the micro for a few seconds. The food lasts a day or two in the fridge after thawed.
I’ve used one of those, a different brand, I think. I liked it. What ever we were having for dinner went right in!
The last baby though, I nursed exclusively until he was almost a year. Then he jumped right to table food. It was nice, not having to mess with the baby food.
Who knows, I may do that this time around. All the problems Eamon has had with milk I think I’m going to try nursing this baby longer with no table food, we’ll see :)
We’ve done the no-baby food for our last 4 kids. It really is wonderful. I nurse them exclusively until they’re at least 8 months old, and usually longer, and then they just eat (in baby form) whateve we’re eating. It really sets you free!
And you don’t need to worry about seasonings or spices, either: your baby has been nursing whatever you’re eating, and he doesn’t know he wasn’t born in India!
It gets easier, too, each time you nurse a baby longer, and hold off table/baby food longer. It really does. The first time I thought I was depriving the poor boy. Not that they didn’t have little tastes of this and that along the way…I mean, there’s such joy in seeing a baby’s face as he licks his first candy cane at 5 months! Hello!
:-)
Yeah . . .well, yah dah yah dah yah dah . . . and this and that and oh! Yeah! Hmmmm. . . Once I blah, blah, blah … hmmmm… What is really nice is ditty, ditty, dat! Yeah? Oh, yeah…
Some day I’ll be able to talk about baby food and food mills.
You are all so cute!
Tam,
I hope that you will someday be able to join in with more than THAT kind of input! In fact, methinks that you could contribute something intelligent anyway, because you are one smart cookie.
Hope your travels are safe, and you enjoy your time “home”!
Jenni - don’t worry so much…everything will get done, or it wasn’t worth doin’!
;-D
Smiles,
Karen
I love reading all this stuff about nursing the baby longer without dealing with baby food. I had wanted to do that with Ellie, but didn’t think she could wait for “real” food. Now that I have my second, I’d like to try. She’s really a chunk though, so maybe I’ll give her some stuff. I’d like to take the simple approach. It’s good to hear that baby food isn’t a must! Ari
P.S. Jenni, I have a food mill like this and it is really nice. I think it works really well, but you have to keep wet stuff in it ’cause some of the food can clump and not go through the little holes if it gets too dry.
Thanks for all your imput ladies :) Even yours sis, you are so silly! :) Yes, I would have to agree with Karen, you’ve been around babies enough! But if you lived a little closer you might be able to contribute a little more :) One day! Love you!
Ari, yes I too nursed my second baby longer than my first (mostly because of the convienence of it because when you have a 3 1/2 month old that screams every time you put something in your mouth and all they can really eat is baby food it gets a little tiring after a while!
I wouldn’t worry about her being too chubby, I’ve heard that breast milk is the best thing they can have until a year and when she starts to crawl/walk she will trim down :)
Wow you have so many comments! you guys are just on the ball with your blogging, you make me look so far behind! I love the theme change!!! That thing looks pretty cool, my aunt Ronda did that with her babies, blended banana and peas and then froze them in ice trays then just microwaved them when it was time to eat! Handy, someday when we have babies I am sure you will have lots of handy things like that to share with me! Well we love you guys, have a very Blessed Christmas, thanks for staying in touch!!! We love your family photo! Someday I will have to take some for you guys!!!
My dad showed up at Christmas at my house with one of these! (In a lunchbox) He’s using it to grind up his food to make it edible since, after oral surgery, he can’t chew food at ALL.
Wow, I guess that would be really nice to have in a case like that! Shakes and jello can get a little boring :)
